How to Combat Inflation by Making Homemade Bread
Homemade bread tastes better…looks better…. is healthier… and leaves your kitchen smelling amazing. But, is it really saving you money?
Here is the breakdown:
It costs me $1.99 to make 1 organic loaf of bread (flour $.11 per ounce x 15=$1.65 )(energy $.32 per hour)(water 2 cups= $.02). One organic loaf at the store cost anywhere between $4.99-6.99. If you make one loaf of bread per week (versus buying one loaf a week), you can save $260 in one year! Not to mention the health benefits of sourdough bread- the fermentation contains probiotics and prebiotics which aid in digestion. This means your body will get MORE nutrients/vitamins/minerals from the grains. Plus, the healthy bacteria disrupt the gluten proteins and decline fructan levels (aka sugar). To me, these factors alone are worth making homemade bread.
Tips on how to really save money when making bread:
-Buy your flour in bulk
-Keep your pantry stocked
-Use simple ingredients
-Develop a routine so that the bread making process is simple
